Billy McCombie has been drumming since 1964. He has played with Lonach (13 years), Insch (5 years), Grampian Police (6 years), Vale of Atholl (3 years), Stonehaven (1 year) and City of Dundee (formally MacKenzie Caledonia) (6 years) Pipe Bands.

He rose to leading drummer with Lonach, Vale of Atholl and City of Dundee Pipe Bands.

Tutored Bon Accord Ladies, Huntly & District, Towie and District, Blairgowrie and District, London Irish Rifles, Pipes and Drums of Basle (Switzerland), St George's Chorley, Warrington Juvenile, Arbroath R.B.L., Auchterhouse, Cleveland, Houghton Le Spring and Gloucester Pipe Bands.

Billy retired from active playing in 1991.
